Yelp Delivery!!!

We stay in so many different places and environments. Sometimes we’re urbanites. At other times we’re country folk.

Both have positives and negatives. And no place is the same.

After a long stint in the country it’s awesome to take advantage of the metro conveniences. One of which is Yelp delivery. It’s convenience on roids. Open the Yelp app. Pick the delivery place. Order, pay, and presto!  Dinner is served. Not just weird pizza either.

Frog City RV Park

Well, it’s time for an update. I know it’s been awhile since our last post but it’s not for lack of trying. I typed up an awesome blog post with tons of pictures from our recent stays at Harvest Host locations, scheduled it to post, waited for it to post, realized that the entry didn’t post OR save, got mad, decided to punish WordPress for it’s sins, and gave up.

Now, we are staying at Frog City RV Park in Duson, LA which is just outside of Lafayette. It is such a nice little park and there are many fun things to do in the area.

Not only are we guests here, we are also part time employees. We just fill in on the weekends now and then for the full time managers of the park.

For you non-RV’ers out there, this is called Workamping (work camping). This is when you are hired by a park in exchange for a free site and sometimes pay and other perks. So, we will be living at no charge for the next few months in exchange for a few hours of work.

We tried this one other time and it was a MAJOR fail!!! That last place treated it’s workampers like free slave labor. We left after a week.

But, we sure found a good one here! It’s a slow paced, 62 site, RV park right off of I-10. Everybody loves Daisy and she enjoys playing the park “Welcome Wagon”.

Stop by and say hello if you’re in the area. It’s a great place to stop if you’re headed West to TX on I-10. There aren’t any stops after us until TX (well, there are a few that are FULL of monthly renters in Lake Charles because of the pipeline and two new factories).

Back to the South

It’s cold and rainy and we’re all still feeling a bit puny. But, we are continuing our journey back to the south.

It’s a good work day, though. I can get a lot of work done while Brodie drives toward my next meetings.

I am so excited to be spending a week in the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area where my very best friend is coming to celebrate our birthdays.

Washington Post

Stop the presses!! We were just interviewed by the Washington Post!! They will be doing a story about people making the trip to the inauguration by RV. They are coming to our Campground tomorrow to take some pictures and speak with fellow RV’ers.

I’ll keep you posted on article release dates.

Off to Nowhere NC

We enjoyed our evening in Myrtle Beach and we’re headed to somewhere in North Carolina. But, we have added Ocean Lakes Family Campground in Myrtle Beach to our list of resorts for future long term stays. It’s a huge RV and residential community right on the beach.

Pensacola Beach

Almost every morning, I take Daisy to our little beach on the sound. She loves to sniff and explore. Usually she finds something stinky to snag and run with or to roll her head around in. Yuck! But, she loves it and it is absolutely gorgeous. Today, I finally remembered to take some pictures.

We should be landing in DFW in about an hour to celebrate our Granddaughter’s first birthday. But, Brodie’s knee has not healed enough to bend so we can’t get on a plane. So, we’re “stuck” in paradise.

The water is beautiful shades of blue and turquoise.

Somebody is a photo hog!

She just found a dead crab. Yuck!

A view across the sound toward Gulf Breeze.

These flowers are all over the beach. They look like some kind of ground cover Clematis.

Prayers Please

Daisy always seems to know when Brodie needs hugs and today is really one of those days. Brodie will be having knee surgery today. While this is a very common surgery that he has had before (15 years ago on the other knee), he has not had any surgery since his PTSD diagnosis. Panic attacks are very unpredictable and have proven to be a challenge during this process.

One benefit of living like a gypsy is planning your travel around world class medical care facilities. We are so fortunate to be staying 4 miles from Andrews Institute.

The doctors and the facilities are top notch. However, the surgeon’s bedside manner is pretty bad. Fortunately, Brodie will be snoozing the next time they’re both in the same room. It’s alright. We don’t need a friend, we just need him to be a good surgeon (I’m saying this to remind myself).

We could really use some prayers today:

-Brodie has had anesthesia challenges in the past. We don’t need this today!

-For some reason, the testing/procedure rooms cause panic attacks and flashbacks. We need those to stay away!

-He won’t be able to eat until around 4:30 today. We don’t need hangry Brodie to cause panic attacks.

If you have a minute, please pray for us today. I will keep everyone posted.

Wonderful Failure

Well, we failed! Our goal was to make it to The Grand Canyon and we only made it as far as Santa Fe, NM. We were just having too much fun and spending too much time at the fun stops along the way. Plus, our journey started in Central Florida so, we had to drive quite a distance just to reach Route 66 in Oklahoma City.

We didn’t have a travel schedule for a reason. I sure didn’t want to be gone for 15 days and return absolutely exhausted and feeling like we all we did was drive.

Mission accomplished! We meandered off and on Route 66, saw some fun sites, ate amazing food, and had an overall fun and relaxing trip. We will cover Arizona and Colorado on the next trip.

We are currently making our way back east to Alabama. Since I don’t have fun vacation pics to show on our trip back, I figured I would share the goofy Daisy Mae. She sure is a good traveler and she absolutely loves the Motorhome.

Oh, and we are headed to our next “first” adventure in Alabama. More on that next week…

Rolling out of cars in Memphis

We’re well on our way to the Grand Canyon.  We made it to our next stop today, which is Memphis, TN.  We’re staying in the Graceland RV park.  The area around Graceland appears to be a little sketchy, but the park is nice.

We’ll be staying here a couple of days before we move on west.

Once we were in Memphis and only 3 to 4 miles from the park, we had a very unique situation happen.  We’re driving along when a car, coming the opposite direction, did a hard, fast u-turn in front of us and a young male, late teens or early 20’s,  rolled out of the back door and across the pavement.

We came to a stop and Jodi called 911 to report it.  I contemplated getting out to assist, but before I could more people showed up, from where I don’t know, and angry voices began.  We decided it was best to let the police come and do their thing and we left the area before things got violent.  Besides, the afternoon shift was filing out of the adjacent strip club to take a look.  There were more than enough feet already on the ground to handle whatever situation it was.

Any who, we arrived safely and got situated.

Locked out of the RV

Last night took a very unexpected adventurous turn at about 11:30pm.  Jodi and I were ready for bed, but we decided to take the dogs out one last time.  We were out for about 5 minutes when Jodi called to me and said “the door is locked”. Oh……No…….

Sure enough, the door had somehow locked behind us.  First time this has happened.  We tried for several minutes to use a tool to pop the lock to no avail.  We have a second set of keys for the RV, but they were locked in the Jeep.  Not good.

I must admit here that I was not handling this situation well.  The day had already not gone as smoothly as I tried to make it.  Locking ourselves out late at night was bad icing on a really bad cake to me.

I had luckily brought my phone out with me.  Jodi looked up a local locksmith and within about 15minutes he and his wife were on the scene to help.  This is where the story gets insane.

The locksmith tried to get into the RV, but couldn’t.  We had heard and he confirmed that these doors are very difficult to get into.  We then had him go with plan B.  Unlock the Jeep and we’ll get the spare keys from there.  Only hurdle we had was that once he unlocked the door the car alarm would start screaming and here we are in a tightly packed park.  I got tools to start disconnecting the battery while the locksmith unlocked the Jeep, but before I could get the battery disconnected, he opened the door.

We were off to the races!  We get the keys and are trying to get the RV unlocked, which is not cooperating for some reason.  Because of the screaming alarm, our two dogs are going nuts.  Jodi couldn’t keep her hold on them without leashes.  Then a guy and his wife that evidently live here permanently in a very small RV across the street come over yelling for us to shut the alarm off.  Jodi and I both are trying to explain that we’re working on it while at the same time control our dogs that are loosing it.  The two angry RV dwellers continue to berate and threaten us with calls to the police, the park owner, the president, congress, while we try to grab our dogs and get into the RV to get the key to go the Jeep to shut off the alarm.  This is the best I can do to get the whole crazy thing into words.

The good news is that we got in, got the car alarm off and we both slept soundly after I was able to calm down.

Footnote: the angry neighbor must have left for work or somewhere about 6:30 this morning because he laid on the horn in his truck for a couple of minutes before leaving.  Guess he wanted to make sure we knew what his horn sounded like too.
