On our way back to Florida, we’ve stopped for a few days in the Ft. Worth, Texas area.
We’re in our RV overlooking lake Benbrook in Holiday Park. It’s a US Army corp property.
There are a few miles of hiking trails as well as whatever water activities you’d want to do.
There’s a lot of wildlife around, including predators, so be careful with pets. Daisy and I came across a large cat track on the trails. The same day the gate worker showed a picture of a panther crossing the road near the front gate.
One major complaint we have is that the only entrance gate is locked at 10pm and you can’t get in or out until 6 am. This policy seems insane to us. I really don’t know how someone thought this policy was a good idea.
We’ve got a couple of days left and we’ll continue east.
The red dots show where we’ve been and the green show future confirmed locations through August 2016.

Whew! That list is getting long!
But, this is really no surprise. Why? Well, because this is what we seem to be chasing since our travels began.
We started out in December of last year staying on Fripp Island where the average December/January temperatures are mid to high 60’s. Nope! We had freezing, record low temps the entire time. This continued at multiple locations through April. Freezing!!
And then came May in Orlando where the height temps typically top out in the mid 80’s. Nope! It went straight to mid 90’s. After that, every location we’ve been has had record high temps between 90-100 degrees.
We were so grateful to finally be in TX where the temperatures were so moderate for about a week. Then we went right back to 90-100 degrees. And then Patricia shows up to drown us!
We have prayed that we will make an impact on the areas where we travel. Ummm, I think we need to change our wording because I didn’t realize we would bring Biblical weather events. Oops!
This is our cute little house in Harker Heights, TX. We are about 10 minutes from Killen and around 15 minutes from Fort Hood. This little house is called Mamau’s House. It is an in-law house behind a private residence.
This is the first time we’ve used Airbnb because we would typically choose to have a private residence since we have dogs. However, we hit the jackpot with this house!
The entire property is fenced in and there are three resident dogs that have adopted us. Taygar, the Great Dane, is Daisy’s bestie. They jump in the pool, run in the yard, and wrestle in the mulch. Every morning, Tay waits in front of the house for Daisy.
It has been great for the animals but very fun for us, too! Tonight, the owners hosted an Octoberfest party out by the pool. Everyone brought food and their dogs. It is so fun to hang out with dog lovers. They’re good people!
The owners are both veterinarians. Score! We got our dog’s vaccinated here at home and didn’t have to take them into the scary clinic. AWESOME!
Did I mention that we have a grand baby coming, soon? Yay!
We’ve been in Texas for about 2 weeks now. Apparently we got here in time for an unusual fall heat wave. It’s been in the high 90’s to low 100’s pretty much the whole time we’ve been here.
It’s been kind of weird though. Let’s take today for example. When I woke up and went outside this morning the temperature was in the mid 60’s and felt slightly chilly. It’s 5 p.m. now and the news says the temp is 95. So, the outside temperature has been doing 30 degree swings almost every day.
Not to worry though, the weather genies on the news are saying that we’ve only got one more day of hot before fall weather moves in. Let’s hope they’re correct.
One of the things we’re loving at our Texas rental are the animals. This is Taygar, the resident Great Dane.
He, along with his tiny dog siblings have decided we’re part of the family now.
The old beagle, otherwise known as Boogie, was quite intrigued with our trip from Arkansas to Texas. Notice the tiny bottom teeth showing.
We’re at our new vacation rental in Harker Heights, Texas. This is a small house that sets behind the main house on a good size piece of land.
We only have one issue here and that’s that we have to leave for three days in the middle of our stay. Jodi was having difficulty finding rentals in this area. She finally found this one, but it is rented to someone else for 3 days in the middle of October. That means we’ll have to move out for those three days and then move back in.
Luckily, we don’t have much stuff, so it’s more of an inconvenience than a real problem.
This property is in a great setting. We’re surrounded by mountains, goats, a couple of horses, more deer than you can shake a stick at, and a few other dogs for ours to play with.
God willing, we’ll update this blog soon. I need to blog more pictures.
