Finding the Secret Beaches

Like most people, we figured that we couldn’t or wouldn’t be willing to pay the price for a beach house. But, if you are flexible with dates and willing to stay in the less known beach towns, most everyone can find a home to fit their needs and budget.

This is a beautiful 3000 sq ft home right on Treasure Beach in Port Saint Joe, FL. This home rents for around $2000 a month December-mid March. Is that high season in the Florida Panhandle? Nope! That’s why you come here during that time. No crowds, cool temps, plenty of sun, and your dogs can run and play on the beach.

This same home rents for about $2500 a WEEK during high season. What?!? NO!

This is such a peaceful time of year to be here. The Christmas celebrations are fun and the locals are very friendly! We are 15 minutes to Apalachicola to the East, 10 minutes to Port Saint Joe to the West, and an hour to Panama City. There is no shortage of events from boat parades to Christmas Tree lightings and downtown parades.

Oh, you only stay in condos so that you have a pool and the beach? Well, lookie here! Many of these beach homes have heated pools and hot tubs, too. Yes, this is the same home that rents for $2000 a month during the winter.

I believe we will return again next year! Who’s coming to see us for Christmas or New Year’s? Make your plans now because the house only sleeps 12.

P.S.   I am writing this post with the doors open, Christmas lights on (yes, we have a Christmas Tree), and listening to the sound of crashing waves. Merry Christmas to me!

Our Texas Home

This is our cute little house in Harker Heights, TX. We are about 10 minutes from Killen and around 15 minutes from Fort Hood. This little house is called Mamau’s House. It is an in-law house behind a private residence.

This is the first time we’ve used Airbnb because we would typically choose to have a private residence since we have dogs. However, we hit the jackpot with this house!

The entire property is fenced in and there are three resident dogs that have adopted us. Taygar, the Great Dane, is Daisy’s bestie. They jump in the pool, run in the yard, and wrestle in the mulch. Every morning, Tay waits in front of the house for Daisy.

It has been great for the animals but very fun for us, too! Tonight, the owners hosted an Octoberfest party out by the pool. Everyone brought food and their dogs. It is so fun to hang out with dog lovers. They’re good people!

The owners are both veterinarians. Score! We got our dog’s vaccinated here at home and didn’t have to take them into the scary clinic. AWESOME!

Oh, and we got us some Texas boots.

Did I mention that we have a grand baby coming, soon? Yay!

Video Tour/Review of Disney Area Vacation Home VRBO #280384

Update!!! Video links corrected. Oops!

We had a great time staying at this beautiful home in Davenport, FL. The home is just 2 exits from Downtown Disney and provides easy access to the Kissimee area and all theme parks.

Brodie and I stayed the entire month of May but we had the entire family join us for a week.

The size and bedroom layout was perfect for 3 couples and two singles. But, there was room for two more people in beds and 4 more on pull out sofas. With three different living areas, there is plenty of space to get away from the crowd.

This is a perfect home for a large group traveling to the Orlando area.

PARKING IS LIMITED!!! You can bring 20 people but make sure they fit in 2 vehicles. You can park on the street but it’s very narrow. I have no clue what the developer was thinking when they designed the driveways!
