Maiden Voyage

There she be! Navigating the tight roads of a 45 year old campground that wasn’t quite expecting Motorhomes of her size.

We’ve had a busy week working and traveling. We started out last weekend at Disney’s Fort Wilderness. That was pretty fun since neither of us have ever stayed at a Disney resort. It’s a fun campground with very nice facilities and plenty of activities.

Although it was a short stay, we did get one day at Epcot and a fun night at The Hoop Dee Doo Revue.

We had the perfect table right next to the piano and banjo.

The show was hilarious!!

The remainder of the week has been spent in Dunedin, FL visiting friends and family. We had a wonderful brunch with Bob & Kim Bennett. Of course, we forgot to take pictures.

We had a great time catching up with my cousin Jenny (See the family resemblance?). The Mellow Mushroom in Clearwater is pretty cool!

This is the amazing Camphor tree at Mellow Mushroom.

So, we had fun and saw a bunch of family. However, our Motorhome had to go back to the hospital when we returned to The Villages. It seems that Alliance didn’t fix what they said they did. I will give them one chance to get it right before I drastically change my review.

Oh, how fun! We are preparing to leave at the end of September to start our new journey as full time rv’ers! We were thinking of getting a class c but we now want a class a. Yours is beautiful! Great post! Let us know if you have any advice about purchasing a good class a (used) model πŸ™‚

    • Well, we are really new to this and just stumbled upon a really good deal. Ours is a 2006 Tiffin Allegro Bay. It only had 19,000 miles on it but, of course, that means it has done some sitting. But, we had an extended warranty transferred to us by the previous owners. We used that warranty to replace an AC unit and backup camera. We also had a full oil service along with a full inspection of all of the hoses and gaskets that tend to degrade over time.

I would say that we have learned that there is no way we could spend long periods of time in anything smaller than this. But, we also have 2 dogs. We may have more suggestions later in the year as we have accepted a Workamper position in southern AL September-December. We will not be full-timers but intend to use it here and there between our vacation home rentals.

Good luck to you in your travels! We LOVE not owning a home.

Wow, y’all did get a nice one! We looked at a Tiffin but it was a 1999 😦 little too old for what we’re after. Thank you for the advice! I am so glad we didn’t buy a class c and are now on the hunt for a class a! Did y’all buy from a private seller? We are having trouble locating many. I don’t know if you’ve ever been to southern AL but we live on the MS gulf coast and southern AL is really nice!

      • Yes, we bought from an individual that had his unit at a dealer on consignment. I’m not sure that that’s the best way to go because, of course, you don’t have the dealership to make sure everything is in working order before you leave with it. But, you also pay for all of those services. We figured that since we got such a good price, we would be committing some of that saved money to repairs. So far, we’ve spent about $3000 of the $20k we saved. So, I’m good with that.

Yes, we’ve stayed in the area many times. In fact, we bought the RV in Ocean Springs, MS so we might have stolen your good deal! 😊 We just bought it in June. We stayed at the camp ground there in Ocean Springs the week we bought it and the campground hosts recognized it immediately. I guess they looked at it and came back to buy it the next day and it was already gone.

Oh my goodness!!!!!!! You totally did get our deal LOL!! Small, small world! πŸ˜‰ Although I am very hopeful that the one we choose will have a small bathtub (fingers crossed)! Our anniversary is this weekend but after that it’s back to the RV search! We already traveled to Gulf Shores area. I think we’ll try the Metairie & Slidell area next. We also check Craigslist daily. Wish us luck! So nice to have met you! Stay in touch!

  2. I do recommend looking for the models that offer 1 & 1/2 bath. That means you actually have two vanities and sinks. One is in the toilet closet and one in the shower area. I think this makes for a good marriage!!😊

    • Well, now you’re asking hard questions! Hmmm, I think it was Southern Trailer Sales or something like that. They don’t carry class A only travel trailers. But, they do take Motorhomes on consignment occasionally. We also looked at Camping World in Biloxi. They had one we REALLY liked but it was maybe a 1999 or 2000.

Gotcha πŸ˜‰ Great, thank you! We looked at Camping World in Alabama but didn’t have much luck.

      • I think they’re slim pickins right now while they’re under construction. They told us that if we wanted to test drive one of the Class As we’d have to give them a couple of days to move other rvs to get it out. It was a construction mess!!
